As we move into the New Year, we also encounter new changes to the UK theory test. The DSA have announced that it will stop publishing the multiple choice questions and answers and start using unpublished questions from 23 January 2012.

Motorists that are caught driving on illegal tyres is also a topical issue this month. Shocking figures released by Tyresafe have revealed that in 2010, there were 10,475 court convictions related to driving on defective tyres. Keep your tyres to a roadworthy standard and make sure you avoid a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points!

Many motorists still driving on illegal tyres

As of the 23 January 2012, new theory tests will be introduced using questions and answers that the public will not have had access to, making any previous theory test 'Q and A banks' redundant. Since the theory tests started in 1996, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has published the questions and answers, for all categories of tests, for cars, motorcycles, lorries and buses.

Figures released by Tyresafe show that in 2010, court convictions related to driving on defective tyres in England and Wales had risen to 10,475 motorists, approximately 1,000 more than 2009. Many motorists are delaying the purchase of new tyres, however, some are waiting far too long and are risking their own safety and that of other roads users, by going beyond the legal minimum standards.

Would you drink four double whiskies and then get behind the wheel? Well a study has revealed, if you drive whilst suffering with a heavy cold or flu, your driving ability drops by 50% which is the equivalent to consuming over four double shots of alcohol. Motorists who drive whilst under the weather are less aware of surrounding traffic, break more suddenly and cornering becomes more erratic.
